Hands-on with the HTC Sensation XL

When HTC decided to name their latest handset the Sensation XL, they weren’t kidding. This thing is an extra large monster in every sense. 4.7-inch screen, Beats audio, the works. It’s a powerhouse of the not-so-pocketable variety. Actually, HTC managed to avoid adding too much bulk around the mammoth display, creating a device that isn’t quite as big as you might initially imagine. But let’s not fool ourselves, check it out in comparison to our very own Chris Chavez’s HTC EVO 3D in the above hands-on footage from CTIA and the difference is apparent.

HTC Sensation XL Officially Announced as 4.7 inch Beats Smartphone

It keeps going… and going…. and going. The screen sizes on phones these days, is what I’m talking about. HTC’s officially announced their HTC Sensation XL “XL” is a nod to the fact that it has a 4.7 inch display compared to the original Sensation’s. For what it’s worth, it also only has WVGA resolution.

Although you would expect the same or better specs inside, this one is still a tad weaker than the Sensation as it has a 1.5GHz single-core processor and 768MB of RAM. We’re not all that slighted, however – it still looks like a beast of a phone.

Other specs include an 8 megapixel 720p HD camera with dual LED flash and 16GB of storage, only 12GB of which are usable. Reports say this one disappointingly has no microSD card, a huge stray from the norm for an HTC device.

It’ll also apparently come with in-ear Beats headphones, but there will also be a special edition offering that gets you a pair of Beats Solo headphones. Outlets mention that this thing will be available starting early November in EMEA and Pacific Asia, with Vodafone UK being the first confirmed carrier to offer it. Read on for full press details.

HTC’s October 6th UK Event is Definitely for a Beats Branded Handset

Members of the UK press have received further details regarding the October 6th event HTC informed everyone about. The invitation clearly shows Beats headphones so we expect them to announce at least one of the rumored handsets shipping with this technology.

Considering the HTC Vigor is headed to Verizon and this event is being held in the UK, we’ll rule that out. That leaves us with the HTC Runnymede, which has recently been rumored to come to retail as either the HTC Bass or the HTC Sensation XL

The latter name would refer to the fact that it has a 4.7 inch display compared to the Sensation’s 4.3. Unfortunately, this one won’t have a dual-core Snapdragon processor, but the 1.5GHz single core chipset inside should handle HTC Sense with ease. And we’re expecting Beats music integration, of course. It all unfolds on October 6th and we’ll be checking the newswire viciously that day. [SlashGear]

HTC Runnymede Gets Caught on Video, Might be Branded the HTC Sensation XL

Another HTC phone that’s been making the rounds lately is the HTC Runnymede. It’s poised to be one of the first Beats headphones after HTC acquired the company. Inside will be a 1.5GHz single-core processor and a 4.7 inch display, according to rumored specs. It will also be bundled with Beats headphones (different sets depending on which bundle you get).

Rumors once pegged the phone as the HTC Bass, but according to a supposed trusted source of PocketNow’s, it may come to market as the HTC Sensation XL The XL, of course, refers to its 4.7 inch display over the Sensation’s 4.3 inches. Unfortunately, the processor won’t be quite as good (though single-core Snapdragons are not bad by any stretch of the imagination). Perhaps this is one of the phones HTC’s announcing at their early October event. We’ll see. (Head to Engadget for the video as we figure out why Viddler hates us right now.) [Engadget, PocketNow]
