ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Gets a Quick Maintenance Update (Netflix Works)

This image has no alt text

The ASUS Transformer has gotten itself a pretty decent OTA update. Version 8.6.5.9 is said to have allowed people to use Netflix to its full capabilities, however it’s not going to show up in the market. You’ll need to grab the Netflix APK, but from there you should be on your way to streaming all your favorite content. The great part is that root isn’t required so everyone can get in on the fun. PS: those of you with docks should hook your tablets up to it as it too has gotten a bit of love in this update (though we’re not exactly sure what sort of love that is). [Droid-Life]

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Gets Cut, Scratched, Shot at With Bow & Arrow… for Resilience Sake (Video)

We’ve tested ASUS Eee Pad Transformer right here, as best we could, but we didn’t dare to harm it in any way… However, the guys of AsusRog.com are not that shy, so they scratched the display on the slate, using nails, a knife, coins and finally a bow and arrow. See how the Gorilla Glass took the tests in the vid below!

Obviously, the average tools, such as the keys and nails did close to no damage and not even the knife mattered much. However, the bow and arrow proved fatal, but it would do that to any tablet, to be honest… Meanwhile, I can’t help but wonder what happened to the Dragontail technology, that was supposed to rival Gorilla Glass

I remind you that this tech involves a scratch resistant cover that’s 6 times stronger than average soda lime glass. What about tablets and smartphones based on this technology? The company Corning Inc is behind Gorilla Glass and it doesn’t seem to be handing over supremacy too soon…

Next-Gen ASUS Eee Pad Tranformer to Be First Kal-El Device?

This image has no alt text

ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih promised the next iteration fo the Eee Pad Transformer would be impressive, and according to new reports his words could be an understatement. Multiple sources are claiming the next Transformer, scheduled for a launch sometime in the fall, will be the first device to feature NVIDIA’s quad-core Kal-El SoC. The timing is slightly off from the original timeline set forth by NVIDIA. August was initially pegged as the month for Kal-El’s debut, but it would now seem that things have shifted back slightly. Either way, we eagerly await the potential of four cores pumping out Android goodness.

New ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Accessories Show Up at Amazon Germany

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is designed to be ideally paired with its $150 keyboard dock — hence the name — but thanks to Amazon Germany we are catching wind of a few more accessory options for those choosing to forego the laptop transformation. Though not yet available, Transformer owners should soon be able to pick up any of three new accessories, which include USB and SD adapters for what amounts to $27 and a docking stand with USB and SD ports built in priced at  $41. Amazon lists the items as shipping one to three months from now, so it could be a while. Heck, the second-generation Transformer might even be out by then.

NVIDIA Dual-Core Blowout: 5 Androids, 10 Cores, 1 Contest [PART 4]

This image has no alt text

We’ve already given away 3 Android devices in our blowout contest, each rocking an NVIDIA dual-core processor, and this week is no different. But at the same time this week is VERY different. Take a blazing fast 1GHz dual-core Android Tablet, give it a keyboard accessory that virtually morphs it into an Android Laptop, put it in a box and ship to the winner and whaddaya got?

The ASUS EEE Pad Transformer. TegraZone on the Transformer? Yes please.

If you’re unfamiliar with TegraZone you should get acquainted, but you’ll need an NVIDIA powered Android Device as NVIDIA only offers the app for devices with their processors – it’s a VIP pass of sorts. It’ll give you access to some awesome games – some of which are ONLY available on TegraZone and ALL of which are optimized for the Tegra Dual-core experience, ensuring smoothly rendered animations, crystal clear graphics, lightning fast performance, improved battery life and more.

The Transformer itself is one of the more interesting hybrid Android devices and has (rightfully) received a ton of fanfare. In addition to rocking the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, the Transformer runs Android 3.2, has 10.1-inch screen, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, HDMI-out, MicroSD Slot, 2 USB ports, 2 3.5mm headset jacks and packs a whole lot of Android awesomeness.

Want to win it? Read on!

Asus Cooking Up a Next-Gen Eee Pad Transformer

This image has no alt text

With devices like the Motorola XOOM and Samsung Galaxy Tab stealing their fair share of attention, The success of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer was a bit unexpected. But successful it has been, shipping 300,000 units in June and an additional 400,000 in July. The dual-core Honeycomb tablet wins points for its combination of pricing, specs, and features including a detachable keyboard, the essence of the Transformer.

It should come as little surprise, then, that a sequel is already in the works. Poppa Asus Jonney Shih confirmed as much, going so far as to call the in-development tablet impressive, even at this stage. Without any details to go on, we can only speculate about what to expect and when to expect it. We know one thing: we wouldn’t mind seeing Asus move forward with NVIDIA’s next-gen quad-core Tegra chip at all.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Review – Simply the Best Android Slate Right Now (Video)

If you’re looking for the perfect tablet, look no further than the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, that’s pictured and detailed below. This Android 3.1 model already received the Honeycomb 3.2 update last week and it’s also a record breaker, having sold 400k units a month lately.

It will promote Honeycomb to new heights thanks to its sales and we finally have a good iPad rival on our hands. The device comes with a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display (LED IPS LCD), it measures 13mm in thickness and weighs 680 grams. It’s got stereo speakers and a hugely appealing attachable keyboard accessory, that turns the tablet into a netbook. And what a netbook that is!

I tried out an Eee PC model a while back and the Transformer would win a duel with that unit hands down. It’s got well spaced keys, comfortable to use touchpad (that you won’t need, since you’re using a touchscreen) and all the goodness of a portable PC. It even gets two USB ports thanks to the keyboard and an SD card slot, that’s activated for media use by the Honeycomb 3.2 update.

Another stunning feat is the battery life, that reaches 15 hours for the tablet and keyboard combined, since the later comes with its own power source. Back to the specs, on the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer we get all the speed and power of the Nvidia TEgra 2 dual core 1GHz CPU, accompanied by 16/32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. No 3G version is available just yet, so we’ll have to do with WiFi and Bluetooth.

As far as the camera goes, don’t expect HD video capture and brilliant shots soon, since you only have a 5MP sensor available here, with autofocus, geotagging and a fellow camera upfront, with 1.2MP resolution and videocall usage. This is certainly a great tablet, that’s even cheaper than the iPad 2 in its standalone version.

The keyboard is sturdy and resilient, but it tends to creak a bit at times, as does the tablet in the large bezel areas it has. There’s a locking button on the superior side of the keyboard, making it very, very easy to attach and detach the tablet in mere seconds. I really can’t imagine a better replacement for a laptop than this device and with the Eee Pad Transformer 2 already confirmed by ASUS and coming with a Tegra 3 CPU, Apple has serious reasons to be afraid.

Android 3.2 Update for the Asus Transformer Is Now Live – August 2nd for the UK

This image has no alt text

Getting reports from our Phantips that the Android 3.2 update for the Asus Transformer is indeed live. Here’s a quick look at some of the features you can expect from this newer version of Honeycomb:

  • Optimizations / refinements across a wider range of tablets
  • Compatibility Zoom – another option for viewing phone apps on tablets. Works like Apple’s way of doing this
  • Load media directly from a removable SD card
  • Extended screen support API – means more fine-tuned UI control across Android displays, specifically, you can target pixel density, rather than resolution.

Asus announced on their Facebook page today that the update will begin rolling out for our friends in the UK on August 2nd so be on the lookout for that. Cheers!
