A small group of Motorola XOOM owners taken from Verizon’s government and business customers were part of an initial test run of the 4G LTE upgrade for the tablet, and the results are now streaming in. Along with a shiny new LTE modem capable of connecting to Verizon’s powerful next-gen network, the upgraded XOOM tablets are also being loaded with Android 3.2.2. The lower left corner of the above image provides all the proof you need.

Motorola XOOM 4G LTE Upgrade Starts In a Couple of Days

Well folks, good news for those of you who still gave the Motorola XOOM tablet a chance: its 4G LTE upgrade will begin next week. The info comes through a series of emails, sent by Motorola to its customers, in order to alert them about the upgrade.

Droid-Life is also claiming that Moto will give priority to business and government customers, as a pilot program debuts at first and then switches to the general public. All you need to do is file an upgrade request before Motorola sends via mail a package with a pre-paid FedEx box and instructions.

Motorola suggest you backup your data on the tablet before sending it in for upgrades. Also, the process is expected to take about 3 business days, in case you’re wondering. Plus, you shouldn’t send charging docks, chargers and additional accessories, just as a side note for those of you preparing the package already. Are you ready for LTE on your XOOM or do you expect bugs?

Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Upgrades Coming Soon – Starting With Business and Government Users

Motorola Xoom owners could be seeing their 4G LTE upgrade ahead of the rumored September launch. Only one small catch — Motorola will begin the upgrade process with “business” and “government” Xoom owners first. The pilot program for the 4G LTE upgrade will notify business and government users via email that their upgrade is ready with directions on how to ship out their Xooms free of charge. Hopefully soon after that, “regular” Xoom owners can expect similar emails.

This whole “4G LTE upgrade” fiasco has got to be frustrating for Xoom owners now being placed on the back burner even though they largely contributed to the Xoom’s “success.” I could only imagine how embarrassing this must all be for Motorola who promised to have the “first 4G tablet” only then to have that title snatched up by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. All I can say is, hang in there guys.

Accessories Pages Go Online for Motorola XOOM 4G LTE and Droid Bionic

Though no peripherals are to be found within their borders, accessories landing pages have gone live for the Motorola XOOM 4G LTE and Motorola DROID BIONIC at Verizon’s website. Both devices are rumored to be available around September, though no official word has come down the pipeline one either. The XOOM 4G LTE will likely hit shelves shortly after Verizon and Moto begin enabling 4G on the original XOOM, which should occur sometime next month. The Droid Bionic is currently rumored for a September 8th release.

Apple Drags Motorola XOOM into European Dispute

The latest development in Samsung and Apple’s ongoing dispute saw the Galaxy Tab 10.1 blocked from sale in many parts of Europe, but the small victory won’t see the maker of the iPad resting on its laurels. In the very same complaint filed in Germany against Samsung, Apple references the Motorola XOOM and its desire to have the competing tablet examined by the same court. A separate complaint filed over the XOOM is mentioned, though it is unclear if Apple aims to deploy the same tactics they have used against Samsung by seeking a preliminary injunction and blocking sales of Motorola’s tablet. Up to this point, Motorola has remained relatively immune to ongoing infringement disputes thanks to a vast portfolio of mobile patents.

European Rollout of Android 3.1 for the Motorola XOOM Finally Begins

This image has no alt text

After missing its initial launch in June, the Android 3.1 update for the Motorola XOOM is finally rolling out to European users, just as promised. The commencement was announced via Motorola’s Facebook page and will be hitting countries across Europe in stages. This could mean some XOOM owners may still be waiting a few days or even weeks to get their hands on a version of Honeycomb that has already been surpassed. We’ll wait for this update to circulate a bit before we start in on the Android 3.2 speculation.

After word of an initial soak test and an updated support page, we are hearing reports from owners of the Motorola XOOM tied to Verizon’s network that the Android 3.2 update has begun rolling out. For the uninitiated, the update most notably enables the XOOM’s SD card slot, but will also enable a new “zoom to fill” mode for resizing non-native apps for display on Honeycomb tablets. Any readers out there receiving the update yet?

XOOM Deals: $440 32GB WiFi from eBay, Free or $100 from Comcast (Contract)

Looking to pick up a tablet that, with all due respect, has been outclassed by several competitors since it’s launched? There are a couple of cheap ways to get the Motorola XOOM in the way you want. On eBay, you can find the XOOM as a featured deal for $440. This is the 32GB WiFi-only model, though, so keep that in mind if you’d rather spring for a 3G (soon to be 4G) version. [eBay, Thanks Diego!]

If you’re a Comcast customer, though, you can get it even cheaper if you don’t mind being tied to a contract, ideal for anyone who sees themselves with Comcast for the long run. You can grab a XOOM for signing up for a few different Comcast packages.

As with anything that’s dirt cheap or free, you’re tying yourself into a 24 month contract with a $300 ETF that is shaved by $30 every three months until it expires or until you void the contract yourself.

If you want to take advantage, you’ll have to mention the promotion to the Comcast rep you’re dealing with – they aren’t advertising this deal and won’t be proactive in offering it. It lasts from now until September 15th. Details about the different offers you can take advantage of can be had at the source link straight ahead. [via Android Central]

Verizon has updated their Motorola XOOM support page to detail the Android 3.2 update, which should be rolling out to the 3G-enabled tablet any day now. The update brings the expected enhancements billed for the latest version of Honeycomb, including new zoom scaling for non-native apps, microSD support, and movie streaming and rental improvements. The 15.4MB file will bring the XOOM’s software build to HTJ85. The update will be available pending the results of a soak test said to kick off at some point this week.
