Samsung Fascinate 3G+ on TELUS Gets Gingerbread

Updates, fun fun fun! TELUS users that have opted to make the Samsung Fascinate 3G+ their device should be happy today knowing that the upgrade to Android 2.3.3 is now available, a testament to Samsung’s desire to improve their reputation regarding after-market update support. Instructions how to check for the OTA is below, but be sure to read the support page at their site for precautionary measures you should take before updating. [Mobile Syrup, Thanks Dave!]

As of August 2011, a new firmware version is available for the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+. Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current firmware version.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select About phone.
  4. You don’t need an upgrade if the:
    • Firmware version is 2.3.3
    • Build number is GINGERBREAD.LKF9.

Deal Alert: Best Buy’s “Free Phone Wednesday” Starts Tomorrow At A Store Near You

I’ve always been one of the more… “frugal” people I know. Which is why I love bringing you good deals like this. Tomorrow Best Buy is having their “Free Phone Wednesday” event and they’re giving away some great Android handsets for almost nothing. The handsets included in this deal are the Motorola Atrix 4G on AT&T, Samsung Nexus S 4G on Sprint and the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon.
This could be seen as more of a clearance event than anything but hey, free is free. Keep in mind is some states you will still have to pay sales tax for the full price of the phone along with the appropriate activation fee’s so, don’t expect to leave your wallet at home. Anyone have any experience with any of these phones? Care to advise some would-be buyers?

CyanogenMod Nightly Builds Now Live for Samsung Fascinate

A couple weeks back we learned the Samsung Fascinate would be added to the stable of devices supporting CyanogenMod 7. Nightly builds are now live for the device, offering users of the handset an alternative to its current Android 2.2 build and the bugs that have in some cases rendered it a frustrating mess. ED05 Update Ready for Samsung Fascinate, Squashes Incoming Call Bug

The ability for Samsung Fascinate owners to exchange their buggy handsets for something bit newer and totally fresher may be short lived as a new update with build number ED05 is prepped and waiting in the wings. The software patch will correct the incoming call bug that has been bothering some users and deal with some minor SMS snags. Google Books will also come pre-loaded with the update. No word on when it will begin rolling out, but look for it on a Fascinate near you in the near future.
