I guess it’s time for take two of the Romanian tablet Allview AllDro review, this time with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Let me remind you that I reviewed this $200 slate here, but back then it only had Android 2.1 installed. We weren’t impressed by its product, mostly because of its lag and poor screen. Now let’s see what’s changed!
For starters you get Android 2.3 Gingerbread on this model, that does a few tricks, like bringing a more ergonomic virtual keyboard, a new power control widget and an overall increase in speed and stability. The tiny lag in swiping remains and the 7 inch resistive screen + stylus is still far from perfect, but for a low end slate, this model is reasonable, especially for Android 2.3.
The update is performed by entering the figures that make a code on the back of the device on the Allview website. Keep in mind that if you want to downgrade, you’ll have to send them the tablet back for the process. That downside to this upgrade is that you won’t be able to use the 3G dongle with the AllDro anymore, but hey, there’s always the WiFi, right? All in all, this software update is welcome, but still the slate has its problems…
