Apple’s iPad managed to grab hold of 95% of the tablet market in its few months of existence, having managed to sell 4.4 million units in the September quarter, according to Strategy Analytics. Apple also announced that it has sold 4.19 million iPads over the last quarter, an impressive feat for any tablet or computer maker.
The success of the iPad also pushed total tablet sales, that were up 26% from the previous quarter, when total sales reached 3.5 million. The tablet wars were basically started by the iPad, with tons of Android models following and the OS standing for 2.3% of the total market in Q3. Samsung Galaxy Tab is supposed to make waves this Fall, once it goes live on all retail channels.
Meanwhile, Windows slates fail to impress, even being surpassed by Android models.
